GELIGNITE SHATTERS DOOR

CITY JEWELLER'S: SHOP. NO VALUABLES REMOVED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 8. "With a deafening explosion which startled peole in the vicinity, a- charge of gelignite shattered the door of Mr. B. J. /Freeman's) j'pwellor’is shop at No 13 Manners Street, early on Saturday evening. Mystery surrounds the incident. The explosion occurred at about .halt past eight, at a time when the street was comparatively quiet, hut within a few minutes there was a large crowd outside the premises, including members of the audience from a nearby picture theatre. Policemen on patrol duty soon took charge of the situation and kept back curious spectators. Examination of the door showed that the gelignite had been attached to the handle and had apparently been ignited by a quick-time fuse. The door, a wooden one, was completely shattered. Apart from this and minor, breakages inside the shop, the explosion did no serious damage. Soon, after the arrival of the police the doorway was boaTded up. None, of the jeweller's stock was removed.
