Replying in the House of Commons to a question on the recent Communal riots at Benares, the Secretary lor India (Captain Wedgwood Benn) said the condition of the city was almost normal within a week T , A meeting addressed by Hindu and Moslem leaders passed resolutions cte-doi-ing the riots, sympathising with the sufferers and raising a fund for the repair of temples, mosques, shops and houses and compensation of the injured.
