COMPANIONATE MARRIAGE
B LSHOP’S DENUNCI ATI ON United Preat Association—By Electric Telegxapo Copyright,; LONDON, Feb. 23. The Bishop of London in an outspoken condemnation of companionate marriages and “week-endings” by young unmarried couples, preaching at Chapel Royal, St. James, said that the- other day he had. the greatest difficulty in persuading a young manned woman that to go away with a, man other than her husband for a day or two was adultery. “She said: ‘What a funny thing to call it!’ ‘That's what the Bible calls it.’ I replied “With this insidious teaching creeping in from America,” the bishop continued, “we have to look carefully to see what is the teaching of our Lord. I find many people make a great deal’ of the Lord’s kindness to the woman who was taken in adultery. Of course] He was kind, but we must not forget the rest of the- Christian religion. The body is a beautiful servant but a terrible master. Christians must watch every cinema play to see that it does not bring temptations to the minds of the young.”
