AIRMAN RETURNS
CALCUTTA-ENGLAND FLIGHT. AIATTHEAV’S NEAV PLANS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) BRISBANE, Feb. 20. Captain Matthews, the aviator, arrived aboard the Alar el la. from Darwin with portions of his aeroplane. He intends to continue by steamer to Calcutta, whence he will fly to London.
After waiting an Darwin for a favourable opportunity to hop-off on an Austral ia-England flight, Captain Matthews abandoned the plan. He had many disappointments because of adverse weather.
ROSE DELAYED
ENGLAND-OAPE TOAVN FLIGHT.
RUGBY, Feb. 19. Flight-Lieutenant Rose, who left Ly.mpne last AVednesday i,n an attempt to set up a new record flight between England and Cape Town, but was delayed in. the early stages of the flight, arrived at Bulawayo to-day. He expects to complete the flight in just over nine days at an average of 950 miles a day. STUDENT ’ S ATTEMPT. LONDON, Feb. 19. George Fairbairn, a Cambridge undergraduate., left Hamvorth for Australia at 8.30 this morning, called at Lympne, and took off again, presumably for Paris. He is attempting to lower the record.
