ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY
REHEARSALS RESUMED. After the end of the season spell, the Hawera Orchestral Society have recommended work and the indications are that the season will he very successful. It was announced that as the band contest had been abandoned, Mr Fox was able to take up regular prao-j tice. The response to a call for members has been satisfactory and the numbers are now well up to those of last year. Honorary members and other enthusiasts will be interested to learn that the music in practice include® “Bohemian Girl” (Balfe); Burmese suite “Pagoda of Flowers” (Amy Woodforde Finden); “La Traviata” (Verdi); “Vais© Triste’’ (Sibelius)and four dances from “The Rebel] Maid.”
A start has also been made with the overture to the choral work ‘‘Lobgesang” (Hymn of Praise) by Mendelssohn, which is to he performed by a large chorus. Already a considerable number of singers have advised their intention to take part.
