CRUISER SCUTTLED
END OF VETERAN PIONEER. EXCELLENT WAR RECORD, United Crew. Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright, i SYDNEY, Feb. 19. What was left of the old Australian cruiser Pioneer, after stripping at Garden Island, was towed to sea last evening and scuttled. Built 32 years ago, one of seven of an experimental type midway between torpedo-boat and light cruiser, which failed to realise expectations, the Pioneer, nevertheless, did great work in war time, including assistance in the destruction of the German cruiser Konigsberg and the capture of several merchantmen.
