DUNEDIN, Fch. H. ihe Gas Institute concluded its annual meeting yesterday, when several papers ot a technical nature were read. it was decided that in future the annual eoutercnce should be limited to three days, thus cutting mil some of the entertainment items. The election of officers resulted as follow: President, Air. 3. Learmontli (Alasterton); vice-president, Air. O'Toole (Invercargill); secretary. Air. A. .Morrie Taylor (Timaru); treasurer, ■Mr. G. A. Alacfarlane (Christchurch); council, Alessrs. L. Pickering (Napier) A. Couper (Dunedin), and H. Applevard (Petone); auditor, Air. .1. ,J Hurley-, trustee, Mr. F. W. ,1. Bolt. -Mr. L. Pickering, manager of the Napier gasworks, in a telegram wishing Lho conference every success, said that i construction of liis works was bong commenced, and ho asked for ad»ice irom tlie conference regarding the liscovery of leaking main.— A number of delegates gave their experiences in the discovery of leaking nains, and Air. O’Toole suggested that :he big works of the Dominion might lifer the services of trained men to ielp in the work with which the stricken area is faced. Mr. Al. 3. Kennedy (Wellington) aid that on the day after the earthiuake the Wellington Gas Company, hrough the Government, offered any assistance- it: could give, and later the ompanv was informed that .Mr. Pickring. when tin* work was commenced ■ mild be glad to receive any assistance lie could get. The following new members were letted lull members: .Messrs. Thomas iurr (Pahiatua) and Thomas Wynne Dunedin); associate members, Alessrs. .. J. Pratt (Wanganui), R. S. Ormsy (Christchurch), J. R. Duggan (Alelonine), P. N. Jeffrey (Christchurch), ml H. Williams (Wellington).
