HURRICANE AT RAROTONGA
DAMAGE TO FE.DIT CROPS. (By Telearraph—Press Association.) AVELLINGTON, Feb. ]G. The Secretary of the General Post Office advises that the following message was received to-day from t-lio superintendent of Rarotonga Radio: “9 a.m.—Aitutaki reports a hurricane passing to the east of the- island ; barometer 29.42; hundreds of breadIruit trees are down and nearly all the bananas destroyed: it is expected that the orange crop will have suffered 1 . At noou a east-north-east gale is being experienced at Rarotonga; no damage is reported.”
