ANNUAL MEETING

ELECTION OF OFICERS

The annual meeting of the Hawera Methodist Church was held last evening, the Dev. E. S. Emmitt presiding. The election of church officers resuited as follows: Society stewards, Messrs S. J. Bennett, W. T. Johnson, BJ. Squire, J. Hey, Saunders, L. J -Williams, M. J. Joll and ti. loser; benevolent fund stewards, Mesdanies C. A. Bates, T. J. Hurrell and Mr. G. Gltind'i'jod; congregational representatives, Mesdanies L. J. A\ llhams, C. J. Rowe, D- J. Squire, Miss Bates, and Mr. Saunders. . . u e It was decided to forward letters oi ly devotional service evening from Tuesday to Thursday and to hold a monthly social under the auspices oi the church guild. , It was decidde to forward letters or condolence in recent bereavements to rhe relatives of the late Mrs. Smith (Hawera) Mrs. Boyd (Auckland), and Mrs C. ' Lillicrap (Hawera). Reference was also made to indispositions suffered by Mrs. J. W. Yearburv and Miss R. Beaurepaire, of Hawera, Mo whom messages expressing hopes tor their speedy recovery are to be forwarded. I Appreciation was expressed concerning services rendered by retiring stewards and a vote of thanks was reco r de d.

The Secretary of the Maori Lawn Tennis Association lias advised JSlr. M R.' Jones that the Maori'tournament to have been held in Auckland this year has been postponed on account of the economic depression and the necessity for exercising rigid economy.
