PUBLIC LIBRARY. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the library was held on Wednesday night, when there were present Mrs. \\ . \\ ilson, Messrs H. Brabble, Bridger, Cover and Kgarr (secretary). The librarian reported that two new members had joined, making the total 100 hi all co books had been purchased and £1.2 Ids 3d worth had been repaired. . It was agreed to offer withdrawn books to the W.D.F.U. for distribution in the back country: most ot these books were in good order and would no doubt be acceptable. Accounts totalling £ls were passed for payment. GENERAL. Many refugees from Hawke's Bay have arrived in Eltham as the guests of relatives and in each case the committee was looking after urgent needs. The Boy Scouts have had several competitions in aid of the relief funds, one prize being donated by a lady resident. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. A very successful sale of produce, meat, flowers and general goods was held in Eltham on Wednesday in aid of the earthquake relief funds. Ihe effort was arranged by the combined Plunket, Red Cross and M.D.I.L. committees and the total receipts were £72. The individual efforts of the Te Roti, Ngaire, Eltham, Mangamingi and Rawhitiroa schools added greatly to die success of the effort and deserve great praise for their effort m collecting egos, vegetables, etc. Approximately i 850 eggs were available for sale and the whole lot were sold. , Various competitions were held during the day and in each case considerable sums were ,returned. PLUNKET SOCIETY.. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Eltham Plunket Society held its ordinary monthly meeting yesterday afternoon. Those present wore: Mesdames Carman (chair), Crump, Campbell, Lady Oarncro'ss, Bridger, Wylds, Best, Picard, Clement and Weir (secretary). The following new members wore elected: Mesdames L. Pease, Lekrke, Kelly, Joyce, Frost and Drabble. The nurse reported that 131 children, under five years of age and 12S babies under two' years were under supervision. Thirty homes had been visited.
