OPEN SIX TO ARISUS SECOND DAY PROGRAMME CON CL V DING E VENTS. Good racing throughout the day m ideal weather conditions made Saturday 's concluding programme of the Egmont Racing 'Club’s summer meeting decidedly successful as a sporting, fixture though the attendance, as was the case on the first day, was again be. low the average. Totalisator investments for tho day showed a decrease, of £3135 compared with the second clay ot last season’s corresponding meeting, the sum of £9552 : going through the machine on Saturday as against *12,987 last season. For the two days tne total this year was £20,128 10s, compared with £29,799 las tseason, a decrease of £9,(170 j"i)s. Gate receipts for the meeting fins year totalled £OO4 for the meeting compared with £747 last season, and £1203 for the meeting of February, 1929. Prior to the commencement of the meeting the club offered to make the meeting a benefit for the earthquake relief fund and applied to the Department of Internal Affairs for permission to devote the racing taxation to tho fund, but the reply stated that the request could not be granted. Racing was keen and finishes close throughout tj.ie day and winning dividends were returned by favourites in two events and second money in two. For the meeting favourites thus paid first dividends in five events in addition to a dead heat and five second dividends.

In public opinion Malayan proved a good thing just beaten in the Normanbv 'Handicap field of nine, the favourite carrying £3OO, compared with £249 on the second choice, Star, and •iH-0 on tho winner, which as sixth order was allowed to return a good dividend. Calamine was first out and won from end to end. Over the early stages she was f'oiloived *bv Alalayan, Tenaere, Belie Star, Green Linnet, and Latakia. Running to the five furlongs calamine, was leading Belle Star, Tenacre, Alalayan, Bonogne, and Latakia. Green Linnet was behind Calamine racing to the straight entrance with Belie Star, Bonogne, Alalayan, and Tcriacre close up. Kawhakina was then well back, but at- tho half-distance was coming up. Alalayan looked a winner when 50 yards from the post, but Calamine’s finish took the decision by a head, with Kawhakina a length and ahalf back, closely followed by Cailapat, and a gap to Bonogne, Tenaere and Belle Star. Time, 1.29.

Tcnterden Jed out of the barrier from Kidgcinount, Gold Dawn and Arisus and the only alteration at the half-mile was that Gold Dawn had taken second berth. Tenter., den led Gold Dawn, Ridgemount ana Arisus into the straight. The leader was passed at the half-distance by Gold Dawn, which was being hailed as the winner when Arisus shot up, and in a stirring finish the outsider won bv a head, with a head only between Gold Dawn and Tcnterden and Ridgemount two lengths back.
