ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

SOME FIXE CATCHES. Excellent fishing has been reported in local rivers during the past few weeks and a number of learners have taken advantage of the half-season concession licenses to become acquainted with the art, Members of the Hawera Acclimatisation Society give the advice to beginners that, the services of a fisherman friend should he obtained and his advice followed if learners wish to become proficient ia the correct method of fishin" the streams of South Taranaki. Mr L. S. Maclrie, .of Otakeho, sent a batch of six nice fish —all brown trout —to the secretary of the Society, and these were on view last week in the windows of Messrs Bennett & Sutton. Writing to the secretary, Mr Mackie states that the rivers are full of fish and records his catches to date since, his bag of 20 taken in Deceninber as eight fish, total weight 181 b; nine fish, 161 b; live fish, 111 b; four fish, 101 b; and, on Thursday, 12 fish, 31§lb. As all these fish were taken in the Otakeho stream on a stretch extending for about two miles north from the Glenn Road bridge the river appears to be well stocked. The last bag was taken on the dry fly Wickham's Fancy in the early part of the day and March Brown in the evening. Good bags are also reported from the Ivaupokonui, Kapuni and Waingon. goro rivers, also the Mangawhero stream ami Dunn’s creek.
