TONICS’ STAKES TO VERTIGERN ORAPAI WINS AGAIN. SECOND DAY EVENTS. Beautiful weather again favoured the 1 EgnioTit Racing Club to-day for the concluding programme of its summer fixture, but as was the case on the opening day the attendance was again considerably below the average for t>e fixture. With the tracks in good order, however, the even fields engaged provided keen sport for the gathering. The principal event, the Tonks’ Stakes, ('!row a good field of eleven, and in an exciting finish the decision was gained bv the Fcatherston gelding Vertigevn, which filled second place in the Eginont Cup on the first day. Chopin, which had taken third berth in' the Dgmont Cup, was at Vertigern’s girth in the Tonics’ Stakes, while the favourite, Silvermine, was beaten into third place by u bare head. Mr A. Morse, assisted by Mr A. Patterson, was in charge at the starring barrier, and Mr TV. P. Russell again officiated as .judge, and Mr A. Trortson rm handicapper. Royal Acre led Denier and Full Mark to the first fence and at the stands Denier was piloting Royal Acre, TValtzer, Full Mark, Goblin Market, and Dcmoneratie. Leaving the six furlongs Denier and Royal Acre were together in the van just ahead of Full Mark with a gap to TValtzer and Goblin Market and Democratic at intervals. Across the top the same three leaders were bunched, with Democratic in fourth berth trying to reduce the gap. Taking definite command in the straight, Royal Acre lod at the last fence, and though Full Mark made a good effort, Royal Acre won by a length, with Democratic ten lengths back. Then came 'Denier, TValtzer and Gnglin Market. Time, 2.46.

The nine acceptors went out for the Electric, llTandicap. Chief Link (£331) was first betting order and Open Cheque (£311) also drew good support, but nothing else was given a chance. Gibraltar was first to start, but was soon displaced by Peter Jackson, which led Sporting Chance, (Gibraltar, Chief Link and Paparua to the three furkings. Sporting Chance took the van across the top and into the straight led Peter Jackson, Cfnef Link, Paparua, Open Cheque and Gibraltar. In a rattling finish Chief Link took a sensational victory right on the post by a nose from Peter Jackson, which was a good two lengths clear of Paparua. Sporting Chance and Open Cheque were close up with a big gap to Gibraltar, Summertime and Ripple Song. Time, 1.21:.

Orapai. winner of the Tokaora Hack on, the first day was a sultry favourite with £475 and justified public confidence by winning from end to end. Tea Queen carried £240, but nothing else was well hacked. Hinewai' was slow to move when the barrier rose. Orapai jumped to the front, immediately followed by Silver Rule, Singer, Kissless and Chief Savage and across the top the favourite was leading Chief Savage, Hinewai, Silver Rule, Singer, Win Acre, and Tea Quen. The straight entrance found the same two in front, followed by Hinewai, with Tea Queen coming up. Along the straight Orapai finished on to beat Tea Queen’s bid by a length and a-half, with Singer half-a-length back, attended by Anbridge, Kissless, Chief Savage, and Silver Rule. Tithe, 1.15.
