STEAMER JUNE DISPUTE
CREW’B wLAIM FOR PAY. COURT AGREEMENT REACHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15. The dispute between the master and 15 men of'the Norwegian steamer June was heard in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court to-day. Trouble arose at Nauru Island, it is'alleged, as the result of the poor and scanty nature of the food supplied, and on arrival at Lyttelton, their articles having expired, the men concerned left the ship, which jiroceeded to Port Cnalmcrs undermanned and was there arrested to satisfy their claim for wages. Evidence having been partly heard, the magistrate suggested that if counsel would confer with him privately the matter might be, settled. The men were anxious to get to Australia and could be discharged from the ship there. After a conference lasting some hours an agreement was reached, and Ihe men will rejoin the dune at Port Chalmers, their fares being paid by the ship.
