ATTEMPTED ASSASSINATION
JAPANESE YOUTH CHARGED.
ATTACK ON PRIAIE MINISTER
A wireless message received from Tokio reports the preliminary examination of the would-be assassin of the Japanese Prime Minister, Air O. Hama, guchi, who was shot in the abdomen at the Tokio railway station in November.
The accused is a 20-year-old country youth named Sagoya, who has been twice convicted and released on probation for assault. Sagoya is described as a highly-strung, excitable and somewhat aggressive and ignorant youth.
Under examination he gave as his reason for shooting at the Prime Ministcr the opinion that by killing Air Hamaguchi the financial prosperity of Japan would be restored. Sagoya, who was arrested at Tokio railway station immediately after he fired the shot, is not likely to suffer the death penalty, but probably will be sentenced to a lengthy term of imprisonment.
