RUMOURS OF BRANCH CLOSING
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 12 noon, to-day. MELBOURNE, Jan. 3. A London cable stated that the agency of the Victorian State Savings Bank' had been instructed to refuse deposits, and this is believed to be a preliminary to its closing. The general manager said that it was not intended to close the Londton agency’, but further deposits were not wanted! as the present rate of exchange rendered tlie transfer of money unprofitable.
