Mr J. Fit tali', headmaster of the Ararata 'School, * has left on, a holiday motor tour.
Mr. G. F„ Strange, of Hawera, has passed! section B of the Pharmacy Board examinations, the results of which have just been announced. ■Captain George Buckley, who has been appointed conductor of the Auckland Municipal Band, was publicly farewelled at Wanganui last evening, and was the recipient of a presentation. Tributes were paid to his musical ability and community service, which extended over a period of 30 years. Today Captain Buckley was farewelled by the Queen Alexandra Band. Mr. A. Blackman, gasworks manager at Eltham, has left for Dunedin for his annual holiday. While in Dunedin Mr. Blackman who is tire local scoutmaster will attend the refresher camp for scoutmasters conducted' by headquarters of the Scout movement. Mis® B. Earl and Miss Britland, of the Hawera High School staff, left by express this lhoming en route for Hawke’s Bay.
The Prince of Wales is suffering from ■a. slight chill which necessitated the cancellation of his engagements on Thursday, states a British Official Wireless message. ‘These included attendance at the Simon Bolivar commemoration' dinner at London, but on the advice of Sir Stanley Hewitt, Ms physician, he remained indoors for .the time being. 'The death has occurred at Eketahuna of Air Arthur Byrne O'Callaghan, father of Air W. O'Callaghan, 'Hawera. Mr A. P. O'Callaghan, who was in his 94th year, had been in New Zealand since 1863. Having taken, orders in England, he was for two years vicar ;;f ‘Oxford, Canterbury, and then became a farmer. He represented a Canterbury constituency in Parliament from 11882 t'O 1889 and then, joined 'the. Lands Department, taking charge of the Timaru office. 'ln 1897 ho became supervising valuer in Christchurch, rand ho retired in 1902. Air O'Callaghan was twice married, aud his wife, four sons and six daughters survive him.
