“POSITION DESPEIR ATE. ‘ ’ [By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Dee. 19. The Mayor has forwarded the following telegram to the Unemployment Board: “A specially large deputation of over 300 unemployed waited on me. this morning, being the third deputation in two days. The position is desperate; something must be done at once. It is difficult to restrain hungry men and I urgently suggest that you. telegraph guaranteeing a sustenance grant so that I can pay out £SOO to needy cases to enable them to pay rent and necessities.”
