FIRE AT BOARDINGHOUSE
OCCUPANT’S NARROW ESCAPE. (By Telegraph—Presa Association.) ‘ *; 7 PALMERSTON 'N'.; Dec. 17. (/ Tile caused extensive damage to a large two-storied wooden boardinghouse in Main Street East yesterday afternoon. The top portion suffered most, practically nothing being saved. The effects belonging to ten boarders were lost. One : of the occupants, .Mrs. W - Bridges, had a narrow escape. \\ hen Ihe alarm was firs), given she made lor a, room upstairs in order to recover valuable papers belonging to her husband, but before she could escape flames cut off her retreat. She battled through blinding smoke to a window, where she fainted. She was seen by employees in an adjacent plumber’s shop, who rescued her. She is little the worse for the experience. The contents of the building were insured for £250 and the building for 1255.
