The axemen’s carnival was concluded at Ulverstone on Saturday, when great public interest was taken in the championship events, in which New Zealand and Australian axemen took part. The Hopetoun Cup, the world’s championship standing chop, was won for the third time by R. Radford (Tasmania), who narrowly beat E. Appo (Sydney). There was a great surprise when Eraser brothers, of New Zealand, sawing brilliantly, won the double-handed sawing. Results of the finals, are: — Single-handed sawing championship, 18 inches.—S.
