DEAD MAN IDENTIFIED. LONG CRIMINAL RECORD. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) % t , o MELBOURNE, Nov. 28. The body of the man shot- in. the suburb of Burnley ha:s been identified as that of Frank ELlis, whose crime record was a long one, with convictions in several States and in New Zealand.
Hearing a crash of glass at the front door of her home, Mrs Whittington called out to her husband: J‘Quick, dad! There’s somebody trying to break in. He has a revolver.” Her husband, William Whittington,, seized bis tson’s gun and fired through the leadlights. An unknown man fell dead at the front doorstep.
