A Winnipeg message states that- Mr John McFarland, a prominent grain aninn, of Calgary, .was- nppointedl general manager of Canadian' Grain Co-op. Wheat Producers, Ltd.,, which is the central selling board, for the Canadian Wh6at Pool. Mr McFarland stated' that he accepted the position c-nly from a sense of public responsibility in what he considers a, national emergency. He avail accept no salary for his services in disposing of wheat now held by the pool. While, the situation was serious it was not without elements' of optimism. With grain selling below the cost of production consumption was 'being ' largely -stimulated. Also, the situation jl . offered speculators an opportunity for entering the market cn an, investment basis. The position of the 1 pool was such that there was no possibility of dumping taking place. The policy of orderly marketing would be 'continued. He also urged! a reduction in the grain acreage. “Our Governments and farming ■organisations should take every step to urge acreage reductions- upon other countries, while insisting on similar measures at Home. • "While this may he considered impossible it. must be done.’’
