NO BEQUEST FOR DAUGHTER
APPLICATION FOR ALLOWANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) , DUNEDIN, Nov. 26. In tlie Supreme Court to-day before Mr. Justice Kennedy Minnie Isabel Akhurst applied under the Family Protection Act for an increased allowance under t/he will of her mother. Margaret Urie. The testatrix at the age of 78 succeeded to an estate worth. £6OOO on the death of her son, and on her death at the age of 86 she bequeathed the bulk of the estate to the Presbyterian Church and to the Otago University Council for cancer research. It was stated that plaintiff’s incomes in her own right was £144 a. year and that of her husband £4OO. It was made clear that the only bequest attacked was that to the University Council-. H. B. Barrowclough, representing the university council, said that body was quite prepared to help plaintiff but it could not juggle with money left to it for the purpose of general education. , . .. e ~ Mr F B. Adams, on behalf of the Public Trustee, who is administering the estate, adopted a neutral attitude, leaving the matter entirely to the court . “It- is a shocking will.” he remarked. His Honour reserved his decision.
