VIOLENT EARTHQUAKE
PARTS OF JAPAN ROCKED DEATH-ROLL TWO HUNDRED COMMUNICATIONS CUT OFF. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) TOKIO, Nov. 25. Two hundred were killed when parts of Japan were rocked by an exceedingly severe earthquake at 4 o’clock this morning. No damage was done at Tokio. The earthquake was centred on the Idzu Peninsula, where villages were destroyed. Official estimates vary from 150 to 900 casualties. Communication has been interrupted. Foreigners are reported to be safe in Miyanoshita-Hakone district, where landslides suspended electric car lines and motor services. . Manv houses collapsed at Mishima, which suffered most severely. Much damage was done at Odawara. The ’quake lasted 30 minutes. A report from Atami states that house® collapsed there and five students were buried. . . RECORD AT KELBURN. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. A very good record of the Japanese earthquake was obtained_ at the Kelburn Observ.atorv. In point of magnitude the shake is in no way comparable to the big one of 1923, of which also a particularly ;giood record was obtained at Kelburn.
