HAWERA TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

(To the Editor.)' iSir, —Two recent letters in' your paper touch on a matter upon which I feel deeply, that is, the “ technical’ ’ side of the Hawe.ra Technical High School. My short residence in this town has been long enough to allow •me to see that there is in some quarters a tendency to forget, andi a desire to make others forget, that the institution is a technical School, and to leave an impression that it is a district high school, teaching academic subjects only. I resent this fostering of educational snobbery, particularly in a one-school town like Hawera. Why more of our farmers and townspeople don’t send their children to take tech-, ni'eal classes at the school beats me. Do they think that everyone can be a professional man? This ‘country is too full of clerks who will never become accountants, and accountants and lawyers who can’t get a decent job. There are also too many typistes and shorthand writ-erg abroad —and too many of them are not good at their jobs, i have heard a good dual of criticism of the Technical 'High School one way and another; probably your other two recent, correspondents' have heard some of it, too. Does the Board of ‘Governors never hear it? If the members do, are they satisfied that they are doing their jobs? I have heard' parents doing a lot of grousing, but they would be doing more good if they stirred up the board; or, if it is incapable of being aroused to taking an intelligent interest in the institution it is supposed to govern, what is wrong with parents talcing a little interest in the election of board members and electing persons who will do something?—l am, etc., uisriomsT.
