COMMITTEE’S IMPORTANT SUGGESTIONS.

The Goldfields and -Miners Committee, having considered the petition of a large number of Thames' .gold-miners asking that provision be made by the Government for the treatment of a. quartz or gold dirt won by tributers, recommended 1 ' the petition to the favourable consideration of the Government. A petition praying for. general assistance to the gold-mining industry was also considered by this committee. It had been signed by H. El. Stevens and 1056 others, of Clyde. Tire enm-initte-e made the following report; That in the opinion of the committee the miestion of the granting of a bonus on gold produced' should he referred to the Government for favourable consideration ; that the postal regulation which permits £IOO worth- of 'bullion only being transmitted bv post adversely affects the gdld-mining industry and that .such limitation should be abolished forthwith, that the gold-mining industry offers an opportunity for- the employment of unemployed miners and that the men so- employed will render more valuable aid to- the- State than is rendered by men. who' are. employed on relief workrs, and that the Government be requested to formulate and bring before the Employment. Board proposals for assisting the gold-mining industry with a view to relieving unem.plloyinent. The'report was adopted.
