THE IDEAL SPARES LIST

One of the most- exasperating, experiences for a motor vehicle operator is to have delivered to him incorrect spare parts for a vehicle which he is urgently requiring on the road. The usual result of such an occurrence is a somewhat heated letter to the manufacturers of the vehicle, and while in some cases a mistake may have been made in the spare pai’ts department of the manufacturer, it is often found that in the original order the part required was wrongly described or -some essential detail which would enable the. correct part to be supplied was omit-

ted. It is, of course, up to the manufacturer to issue a spare parts list which will enable inaccuracies in ordering to be avoided, and a spares list should embody sufficient information for any part required to be accurately described, and if possible referred to by a number. Few spare parts lists can be compared with those issued by a wellknown Scottish commercial manufacturer. They are outstanding both for their completeness and for the ease with which components can be identified. This is largely due to the fact that in addition to a clear and concise description of all parts, the lists include photographs of most of the components for which replacements are likely to be required. The .system of repair standard has been very thoroughly developed in respect of all models, and reference to the spare parts lists show that replacements are available with special dimensions to take up various classes of wear. In addition, where some part of a chassis has been modified, and the new part is not interchangeable with the old part, botli the old and new parts are included in the spares list, and the series number of the chassis at which the alteration took place is indicated. All this makes for the very easy and accurate ordering of spares and the greater satisfaction of users.
