j COMPANY’S EXPLANATION. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) WESTPORT, Oct. 2,3. In connection with the stoppage of work, the Stockton Mine Company wishes it to he understood that they are not endeavouring to increase the number of shifts, but are simply asking P cr a rearrangement with the hours of two shifts worked! at the mine between 8 a.m. and 12 p.rn.. this in the interests of economical working. The cqmoanv further alleged that the union committed a- breach oj' the agreement iv being idle on Monday last, for ademonstration. '
