FINANCE BILL PASSED
BUILDING SOCIETY LOANS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 23. "When the House resumed at 2.30 p.m. consideration of the Finance Bill Avas continued in committee. There was considerable opposition to the last clause, AA T hich imposed certain restrictions on the poAver of building societies to receive deposits or loans. Mr Ransom agreed to drop tho greater part of the clause, but the section dealing with the proA’ision that there should be a statement as to the total amount of the deposits and loans AA’as retained. Mr Ransom stated he desired to retain the section, to which the other portions would he _ added next year if inquiries made in the meantime showed that such a step would he advisable.. The Bill Avas then reported to the House Avitli amendments. It was read a third time and passed.
