A British wireless message states that the Hon. Richard Stafford Cripps has been appointed Solicitor-General in succession to Sir James Melville, who has resigned. The new SolicitorGeneral is a son of Lord Parmoor. He was called to the Bar in 1913 and became King’s Counsel three years ago. Sir James Melville resigned recently through ill-health and is at present on a sea voyage.
Considerable interest was shown ill electric cooking demonstration in (the Winter'Show Buildings this afternoon, arranged by the South Taranaki Power Board at the request of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Numerous dainty dishes were prepared and the advantages of the electric range and its efficiency were detailed to an appreciative audience.
