IMPROVED SITUATION

{British Official Wireless.) Received 2 p.m., to-day. RUGBY, Sept, It. The situation in the Nortli-AYest Province in India has greatly improved. In particular the menace caused by the concentration of hostile tribesmen on the western border of the Kurrag A 7 alley lias been removed and the Government of India, lias sent a message: to -the. Chief Commissioner of the Frontier I rovinces expressing appreciation of the services rendered by those concerned .in the defensive operations, including the officers and men. of the regular forces and the military and the Royal Air Force, members of the political staffs of the Kurrag Agency and the inhabitants of the valley for the manner in which their duties were performed m the face of difficulty and clanger. Special word was given to the village levies, who gallantly co-operated with the Crown force®. One years revenue has been remitted to the. inhabitants of the valley and a gratuity ot one month’s pay given to all ranks en-ga.o-ed in the defensive operations.
