REFORM PARTY’S POSITION
conference; at Wellington

WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. Tehre was an attendance of 200 delegates from all parts of New Zealand at the annual conference of the Reform Party. The leader of the party, the Hon. ,J. G. Contes, who was received with prolonged; applause, expressed gratification at the large, and represen- j tative gathering, which augured l well for i the future prospects of the party. Hej urged! the; necessity for working toget-h- . er in the interests, of the party and drew the delegates’ attention to the very serious loss sustained- during the past year by the deaths of Sir Ma.ui Poimare. Sir George Hunter and Mr. E. A. James. Mr. Coates eulogised the valuable .services l rendered t-hei cause of the. party by deceased. Mr. Coates, proceeded to review theorganisation that had taken place since the last annual conference and stated that if an election took 'place: to-mor-row, the party was well equipped for action. A tribute was paid to the splendid work done by the ladies’ auxiliaries and the. junior branches of the league. The party c-ould feel well satisfied! with the results of the by-elections which had taken place during the year. To-morrow the delegates will attend the unveiling of the Massey Memorial.
