Immediately on rounding the mark she, broke out- a spinnaker and a big balloonsail, but with the lightening of the breeze the first four miles of tfie return course occupied half-an-iiqur. ‘ Sir Thomas Lipton gave up hope of victory to-day as he witnessed the accident to the Shamrock, at the same time reiterating that this would be his last attempt. “It .seems that the Shamrock cannot win,” lie said. “No single man in England can build a 1,090,000-dollar yacht alone, and without that none can hope to, win the cup. Hereafter it will have to be syndicate against syndicate.”

The Shamrock is ready to sail the fourth race on Thursday.

It was announced to-day that the Enterprise has been officially credited with the third victory. The race committee did not consider any question of throwing out the race.
