BURNED TO DEATH
SEQUEL TO HOTEL FIRE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Slept. 11. The inquest on Nicol Ferguson Cameron, who was found dead in the corridors of the Gresham Hotel during a fire on August 16, was held! to-day, when the coroner, Mr. T. B. McNeil, S.M., 'returned a, verdict that deceased died from asphyxiation by smoke, “as there was no reason apparently why deceased should not have been able to make a safe escape, and as the evidence showed, that there' was no obstruction in the: passages and the fire escapes were in perfect order.” He also said the evidence’ showed that Cameron was a heavy smoker, and there seemed to be no doubt that he’ was smoking in Iris room and that by some means his bedclothes caught fire; also, on account of two brandies he had had, he might not have been normal at tho time, the alarm was given.
