LOSS OF RAILWAY ORDER

WESTPORT MINE AFFECTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WESTPORT. Aug. 27. A serious position has developed at the Westpoi't-Stookton Company’s mine consequent on the loss of Railway Department orders. Up til] a fortnight ago the company was contracting for the supply of 1300 tons of coal a week. This has -since been reduced to 300 tons a week. With the settling of the strike in Australia, and the importation of Australian coal, household orders for Stockton coal have almost ceased. In consequence the mines are likely to work only two or three shifts weekly, with a consequent loss to the- company, the miners, the railway revenue, the water - siders and the community generally.
