REBATE OF RATES
- ON UNOCCUPIED PROPERTY. TEST CASE TO BE MADE. tßy Telegraph —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 27. The Auckland City Council and other local bodies have recently been acting on the opinion of Mr. Justice Blair some months ago that owners of properties other than dwellings are not entitled to a rebate of half rates when the premises have been vacant for isix months.
A committee representing property owners and the Real Estate Institute has been set up to have the matter rectified by taking a case, to the Court of Appeal and, if unsuccessful, to endeavour to 'have the law amended. It is contended that the obvious intention was to give the benefits of a rebate to all owners of rented property.
