ENSILAGE MAKING

CONTESTS AT AUHOA. HIGH QUALITY MAINTAINED. On Friday- the oomnetitioiis in ensilage making under the aegis of the Auroa branch of the .Farmers' Union were held, the judging being done by Messrs J. M. Smith and J. W. Palmer. of the Agricultural Department. The results proved very interesting, the quality all round being, good, while the winning entry, Mr T. Haworth’s, was placed by the judges as high as any they had seen in Taranaki. The results wore as follow, the maximum for pits being quality 70, cover 10. waste 20. total 100: PIT ENSILAGE.

The party was very kindly entertained at luncheon in the hall by Mesdames Lyndon. Johnstone, Hartley and Miss King, while at Mr and Mrs Hartley’s residence a nice afternoon tea was enjoyed. At the conclusion the president, Mr A. W. King, thanked the judges for their help and advice, adding that there was no doubt farmers had learned much from observation of the methods employed at various farms. Acknowledging the compliment. Mr Smith congratulated Auroa on the good entry and gave a special meed of praiso to Mr Haworth for his excellent work.
