A meeting- of the Housekeeper Auxiliary of the. Women’s Division was held in Palmerston North on* Tuesday afternoon, with Mrs C. C. Jackson, Dominion, president, in* the chair. With regard to rules applying to maternity nurses it was agreed that the old rules, with slight alterations, should be inserted* in the present book of rules. Two cases of distress* •were reported, and authority was granted for assistance to be given in each case. The president stressed the necessity in all cases for members, of the advisory board looking into the .candidion under which housekeepers would have to work. .Consideration, iwas given to the rule re travelling expenses paid by an employer in* cases where there was* no railway in the district, and it was agreed that where an* employer had no car, an allowance should bo made for the first 2*5 miles, by car. In all cases the community* chest has to make up any deficiencies in housekeeper ’g. salaries. The 'Dominion secretary reported that thirty-one housekeepers are at present employed, in the following districts: Taranaki 4, Wellington 'Central 7. Te Ivuiti 1. Tauinaranui 2, Bay of islands .1, Raetihi 1, South Auckland 3. Wairarapa 3, Southern Hawke’s Bay 1, Nelson 1. Levin 1, Waverley 1, Southland 3, Otago 1. South 'Canterbury 1. Inglewood and Ohura had each received a maternity nurse on application. Re emergency housekeepers, the following rule was agreed upon: “That where a mother was in need of help and would, be at home herself, girls under 2*'s may be employed at a remuneration of Us to 20s a week, according to their age* and ability.’’ It was* agreed that the Women’s Division housekeepers* be not sent to houses' in which there were infectious cases.
