The forest services have revealed that the fires due to the drought are costing the Government £4OOO a day for their control. In many sections it is reported that fires are still raging and the hazards are many. vThe drought, humidity and lightdrfng are reported to be the principal causes of the fire troubles. coupled with the increased use of forests by recreationists endeavouring to escape the heat in the western coast States.
