The first- quadrangular primary schools'Rugby tournament among teams representing schools in Taranaki, Rangitikei, Horowhenua, and Hutt Valley, was continued on Monday on the Petono Recreation ground, under weather conditions vastly different from those that pertained on Saturday. Despite the unfavourable conditions, good football was played, especially in tlie Ban-gitikei-Taranaki match. 1 IBor th A sec and time Horowiienu.a failed to cross its opponent’s line. The. matches resulted in Rangitikei beating Taranaki by Iff points to 6, and 'Hutt Valley beating Horowhenua by 16 points to nil. Rangitikei are thus unbeaten so far. Easily the better match eft the two played was that between Taranaki and Ranigitikci. the. latter team deserving all its points and its win, (says the “'Dominion.”
If the first spell was Rangitikei 'r, not less so was the second spell Taranaki’s, but indifferent handling among the backs at critical stages, and f/onnd tackling, kept Taranaki out. Rangitikei was prone to play off-side quite a lot, and a number of free kicks were given. Taranaki, and after several failures by Tito, Aitken converted two, Taranaki’s total points being 6. Bor .Rangitikei Lloyd potted a goal, Karatau and Lloyd scored tries, the latter score coming from a splendid run by Karatau, who passed infield when collared. PLAY' AT PALMERSTON.
