POSITION IN AUCKLAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 7. According to the secretary of the Auckland Engineers’ Union there are ISO members of the union out of work and, in addition, some engineering shops are working half-time, their hand* being employed in alternate weeks. Over 100 are affected by this scheme and their wages average £2 9s 6 cl.

The secretary declared that in the last few months there had l been a considerable dumping of farm machinery in New Zealand. He also complained that the Public Works Department had gone to America for top-dressing machinery which could have been manufactured in tin- Dominion and at a 'lower price.
