MISCELLANEOUS BUSINESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association ) WELLINGTON, Aug. G. Mr H. M. Rushworth presented in the House of Representatives to-day a petition bearing over 700 signatures praying for the removal of duties on cereal and vegetable stock foods. Mr H. G. Dickie gave notice of his intention to introduce the .Paten. Borough Empowering Bill.
Mr .1. S. Fletcher asked Hon. P. A. de la Perrclle whether he would order the withdrawal of the picture “Anna Christie” from screening at a Wellington theatre until it had been subjected to review by the censor. He stated that -where the picture was not vulgar it was indecent. Hr P. Fraser: What rot! Other Labour members: It is one of the finest pictures ever sliow-n.
Mr Perrelle said he had not seen the picture, but would make inquiries about.
Replying to Air A. Hamilton, Hon. H. At more said notice had been given of the closing of the rolls in Invercargill for (lie by-election, ft was not correct to state that as many as 500 to 000 people had been disfranchised. As the writ had boon issued nothing further could be done now.
The following Bills were introduced and read a first time: Wellington City Betterment Bill, Auckland Provincial Water Board Bill, Wellington CityMilk Supply- Amendment Bill, and the Rotorua Borough Vesting and Empowering Bill.
