RIDE IN RAILWAY DOG=BOX

SCORRINGE BEFORE COURT TWELVE MONTHS’- HARD LABOUR (By Telegraph—l ress Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 5. Scorringe, the escapee from Waikune prison camp who travelled- to Wellington in the dog box of a railway van on June 17, was del at with t-c-day. It appears that he was employed in a position of trust at Waikune working about motor cans and machinery, and was allowed mote liberty than the other prisoners. Counsel pleaded that- Scorringe’s isole idea was to come to Wellington to see his sick mother, and then to give himself up. Scorringe’s father appealed to the court t-o deal with his son as leniently as possible. Air E. Page. S.M., however, said that he was not able to look leniently upon the. offence. Scorringe had a substantial list of previous convictions, some being for serious offences. He was sentenced to 12 months’ hard labour .to he .served at- the expiration of his existing term.
