PETROL PRICES.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Taxation is the order of the day, but surely it is time enough to\ the public to bear 'the burden when the proper time arrives. It would l appeal that in some instances the public is pa vino- in anticipation. I refei paiticularly to petrol prices. 1 learn on what is apparently good authority that oil companies, although they themselves are paying increased duty, have not as yet passed this on to their customers—o'ar«iof,©s and service stations. xTov» is it tlien that the petr,oi price lias been increased in Hawera from 2s Id to 2s 5d per gallon? Who is getting this additional 4d per gallon? , It would appear that this premature increase in price i >S( worthy of consideration by Tnc Automobile Association. I am, etc., UIyJ- i. JLv^L
[We are informed by wholesalers that the price of petrol lias not yet been advanced to the re-seller. The price of lubricating oil was increased from yesterday. lie-sellers who were interviewed' on the question stated that they fully expected to pay the increased price, and that- they had received no invoice's to date for purchases made since the announcement of the tax. It was understood that the tax was imposed on all petrol now being taken from bond. —Ed'. “Star.”]
