N.D.A. ACTIVITIES
NORMANBY DISCUSS POSITION
QUESTION OF JOININGDEFERRED.
The question of the National Dairy Association and whether the Normanby Dairy Company, which has hitherto not been a member, should join up was the subject of isome discussion yesterday at the annual meeting, as the outcome of a motion sponsored by the chairman —that the company apply for membership. The chairman, in moving the resolution, said he had put this question on tlie order paper, because lie considered that the company was penalised by being left out of the discussions at the N.T).A. annual meetings, and that they should endeavour to protect the interests of the impasteurising factories. He said he had attended two conferences at Palmerston North and Hamilton, and was of the opinion that they should stand up for the interests of themselves and other factories which were in a similar position. At Hamilton it was only by’making a special request that he had been allowed a, voice in the discussion. He had learned since the motion was proposed that the Dairy Board was likely to hold these conferences, and in that it would not he necessary to join, the N.D,A. be-, cause all factories would then have a standing at such meetings. Mr Atkins said that there was a proposal to make the N.D.A. a limited liability company, and. if that? eventuated! and Normanbv became a shareholder. they would have to take up •100 shares on which 2s per share would he called up at once and 3s more at the end of 12 months, the directors staling that no further call would he m a do.
In reply to a question, the .chairman said that the N.D.A. was held to be responsible for a decrease in the price of requisites. Normanby, however, he added, had called for tenders for all
their requisites and so had got them at the lowest cost offering. Answering Mr H. 1. Crocker, the chairman said lie was still not in favour of joining if they could “hold up their end” without doing so. Air CToeekr said lie was of the opinion that Normanby should pay its share if they expected to take its part at meetings of the N.D.A. Air T. Hurley suggested that if the Dairy Board was going to do the work of the N.D.A. Normanby would he paying its share through the former. Air Crocker said lie was in favour of the N.D.A., whose conferences did much good. Mr Jackson : AYe only want one concern, and it is not fair to ask leaseholders to pay for such service. The chairman remarked that if the N.D.A. was made a limited liahilitv company the dairy companies would get rebates on their purchases. He suggested, however, that it might be wise to hold over the question for the present, and on the motion being put to the meeting it was lost.
