STANDARDISED CHEESE
XORMANBY AUDITOR’S REMARKS
Some remarks on the question of standardised cheese were made by Mr. H. A. Lennon, the .auditor for the Normanby Dairy Company, in the course of his report to the shareholders yesterday. He said, inter alia, that it had been, and still was, a cause of much trouble and anxiety to- the industry at large, and that in his opinion the amount received by the sale of the extra butter made was not equal to the loss on the sale of the c-heese. The new regulations had given some companies the chance to. overdo it, with the consequence that inferior cheese had been exported and Tooley Street had given its answer in most decided terms.
' “A serious aspect ot the industry,” lie continued, “is the loss of reputation, and this has to be won back to the industry. Your management played the game and .sent as good cheese as possible, hut one factory sending, say, 1000 tons of poor quality spoils the sale for many other factories.” He added that he hoped the Dairy Division and the federation would take instant action and settle the percentage to be slammed. At the meeting a statement with some details was submitted by the manager, but as tVie results are not finalised. the statement is withheld until it is complete.
