FLOODING AT MINE
ANOTHER. PERIOD OF INACTIVITY.

A report from Hikurangi states that serious flooding again occurred at the Hikurangi Goal Company’s mine yesterday, submerging all machinery, including pumping plant, except one; small pump, which is attempting ineffectn ely to cope with the inrush.
All the employees, numbering 250, were driven from the workings, where the water has attained a depth of 14 feet, inrusliing rapidly. Work at the mine was resumed only in February last after a. closure for 11 months, also due to flooding. It is unlikely that conditions' will permit of further hewing for a long period.
