CHAMPION FIRE-FIGHTERS
HAWERA BRIGADE’S RECORD. PRESENTATION OF PORTRAIT. A pleasing function was enacted at the Borough: Council Chambers this morning when Air. A. Morrison, superint evident of tlie Hawera Fire -Brigade waited uuon the Hawera Fire Board at the close of its quarterly meeting and presented a fine enlarged portrait of the profusely decorated members of the brigade, with request that it be hung in the board’s meeting room. The trophies won by the brigade at last- year’s demonstration in competition against representatives of similar organisations all over the Dominion forms a eonspicious feature of the portrait, and comprises the U.F.B.A. I Championship, High Pressure. Manual, Merry weather, Simplex and Camel Shields, the Duplex Cup and Jubilee Aledals. . In making, the presentation Air. Alorrison conveyed the thanks of the I brigade for the unfailing consideration 'by the board of the men’s requirements.
' Mr. G. J. Bayley, as chairman at the meeting, acknowledged the gift and the spirit which prompted it, at the same time giving an assurance that an early opportunity will be sought of obtaining permission permanently to display the portrait in the Borough Council Chambers. Mr. G. Duncan, representing insurance interests on the board, congratulated Mr. Morrison on the competition -successes of the- brigade, remarking that the men’s efficiency augured well for the -safety of the community in general and was a safeguard of the interests he represented.
