The condition of the ex-Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, has not improved (states a Wellington telegram).
“As the Government has a substantial shareholding interest in the bank, it is fitting that reference should be made to the recent relinquishment by Sir Joseph Ward of his office as Prime Minister of the Dominion, by reason of ill-health,” stated Sir George Elliot, chairman of "the hoard of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, at the annual meeting of the proprietors at Wellington to-day ,“We join in the universal expressions of regret winch have been voiced regarding his retirement, and we concur in the appreciative references which have been made to the distinguished services rendered to the Dominion and the Empire in the course of liis active, political career. We trust that, relieved from the cares of public office, he will be spared many years, to enjoy a wellearned rest and to witness the beneficial results of his official services.”
