Mi- jM. J. Kilgour, a retired civil .servant, lias bequeathed £IOO for the purchase of a piece of statuary to adorn the Botanical Gardens (states a Well in gton telegram). At the Stratford Magistrate’s Court yesterday, Percy Callings, of Tangarakau, labourer employed at the Public Works, was charged with indecent assault. A remand was grouted, until next Thursday. Mr P. O’Dea., who appeared for accused, asked for bail as light as passible on account of the accused having a wife arid family. This was fixed at accused in £l5O and one surety of £IOO or- two of £SO each. The troubles of Hugh Eugene Fisolier, aged 49, mechanic, who voyaged to American Samoa with his wife and four children and a companion in the small cutter Maroro, ended! at Auckland yesterday morning. Oil his arrival at Dunedin on January 21 Fischer was arrested on a charge of stealing the cutter, valued at £350, the property of Lawrence Pitcher. He was brought to Auckland * and appeared on the charge, being remanded in custody. Yesterdav morning when. Fischer’s, name was called:, Mr Osborne Lilly said lie would not offer any evidence and he .decided to withdraw the charge.
